Where is Autotrailer based?
Autotrailer is based at 9 Bandon Street, Frankton, Hamilton 3204. We hold real stock on site rather than drop-shipping, which is how we are able to dispatch most orders the same or next business day. You can reach us on 07 211 7490 or at sales@autotrailer.co.nz.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is free New Zealand wide on orders over $349.99 including GST. Below that, flat rates apply: North Island $12, South Island $18, North Island rural $18, and South Island rural $24. Rural delivery on orders over $349.99 is $10. Your exact rate is calculated at checkout.
How quickly will my order ship?
We aim to ship the same day or the next business day after receiving your order. Please allow 1-2 business days for processing and 2-5 business days for delivery depending on your location. Deliveries to a business address are usually faster than residential or rural addresses.
Do you deliver to rural addresses and PO Boxes?
Yes, we deliver to rural addresses New Zealand wide, with a rural surcharge shown at checkout. We are unable to courier to PO Boxes, although small items can be sent using NZ Post.
Do you ship internationally?
No. We currently ship within New Zealand only.
What does Available to Order mean?
It means we are not holding that item in stock at the moment but can order it in for you. You can place the order as normal and we will be in touch with an expected lead time. Items showing a stock figure are physically on our shelves in Hamilton.
Can I return a part if I order the wrong one?
Yes, within 30 days of purchase. The item must be unused and in its original packaging, and you will need your receipt or proof of purchase. Return shipping is at your cost, and sale items cannot be refunded. Damaged or defective items can be exchanged. Email sales@autotrailer.co.nz to arrange a return.
What size tow ball do I need?
New Zealand has moved from the older 1-7/8 inch standard to 50mm, so the right ball depends on your coupling rather than your vehicle. Check the size stamped on your trailer coupling. If you tow more than one trailer with different couplings, an interchangeable multi-ball kit lets you swap sizes in seconds.
What shank size do I need?
The shank is the threaded stem that bolts through your tow bar. Common sizes are 3/4 inch (19mm), 7/8 inch (22mm) and 1 inch (25mm). Measure the hole in your tow bar tongue, or check the size of your existing tow ball.
What is a high rise tow ball for?
High rise tow balls are the recommended fitment for European stabiliser couplings, which are common on imported caravans. Standard tow balls and interchangeable multi-ball kits are not a suitable substitute for a high rise ball on those couplings.
Are multi-ball kits suitable for bike racks?
No. Interchangeable multi-ball kits are not rated for ball-mounted bike racks, and are also not a substitute for the high rise tow ball used with European stabiliser couplings.
How do I know which trailer wheel bearings I need?
Bearings are matched to your axle and hub rather than to the trailer brand. The easiest approach is to check the numbers stamped on your existing bearings, or tell us your axle size and hub type and we can identify the right kit for you.
Does my trailer need brakes?
Brake requirements in New Zealand depend on the gross laden weight of your trailer. Check the current NZTA requirements for your trailer weight, or get in touch and we can talk through the options with you.

Yes. Alongside retail customers we supply trailer builders, repairers and workshops needing ongoing parts supply. Get in touch to discuss your requirements.
