Elecbrakes' Bluetooth electronic brake controller mounts on the trailer, not the tow vehicle, so it can be synced to any smartphone (Android or Apple) or the optional Elecbrakes Remote Control, with no wiring or modification needed in the tow vehicle. Designed and assembled in Australia.
Compliance & Testing
Compliance: Per Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency rules, a trailer over 2,500kg and up to 3,500kg laden weight must have a direct service brake system — one that lets the driver directly and progressively control trailer braking from the driving position. The Elecbrakes system meets this when the remote or phone running the app is plugged into a power source and accessible to the driver while towing.
WoF/COF testing: As a proportional controller, EB2 can struggle to show braking on a roller brake tester when the tow vehicle isn't moving. In that situation, select Programme 5 and set the minimum level to 50–60% — this activates the brakes as soon as the brake pedal is applied in the tow vehicle.
Elecbrakes uses a high-speed microprocessor sampling operating parameters over 1,000 times per second, communicating over Bluetooth 4.0 with long-range, dropout-resistant performance so the unit can be mounted anywhere on the trailer's drawbar. The system keeps operating even if the Bluetooth signal is interrupted. EB2 is normally powered via the tail lights, with a second, preferred Auxiliary Power Input from the battery also provided for a prime mover towing vehicle. It's housed in a tough fibre-reinforced housing encased in urethane, fully protecting the electronics from water, dust and vibration.
